Improving Sleep to Achieve Optimal Health

Sleep is a very important part of achieving optimal health. It can affect almost every aspect of your life, including controlling pain. Finding a way to get adequate and comfortable sleep is a great aspect to include with regular chiropractic care. The next series of blogs will cover ways to improve your sleep;

-Take a Nap every single day.  It can be difficult to fit a daily nap in, but a here are a few thing that may help.

-Nap at the same time every day. This will help your body regulate itself, which will help you fall asleep fast.

-A short nap is best. A 10-20 minute nap should provide enough sleep to help you feel rested and alert, a quick nap will also not interfere with your normal nighttime sleep.

-The ideal napping time is 20 to 30 minutes after lunch, this is when your body is more naturally inclined to feel tired.

-Find a time to worry.  Many people choose the nighttime to stress and worry, but this can lead to it taking longer to fall asleep and more restless sleep. Stress can lead to back pain which can interfere with chiropractic care.

-Get out in the sunlight soon after waking up in the morning.  Getting outside in the sun as much as possible can help you make the most of your day and feel ready for a long night sleep. If you can fit some exercise in, even better!

-Avoid taking a hot bath. While a hot bath seems relaxing and many people do enjoy this as a way to calm down after a busy day, it can actually keep you awake at night. If this is something that you look forward to, try to schedule this activity at least 2 hours before you plan to go to bed.

-Make your room colder. It is important to allow your body the opportunity to cool down. This can greatly help you to fall asleep and stay asleep.
